VIN Number Decoding Guide
Every vehicle has a series of Vehicle Identification Numbers (  VIN Numbers)  also known as the chassis number which assist in ascertaining a vehicles authenticity.

This website provides the location of the these VIN or chassis numbers, explains why they exist, what they represent and describes practices to effectively trace a vehicle's history.
Since 1980 almost every passenger vehicle with a few exceptions should be fitted with a VIN plate (Vehicle Identification Number) that shows the manufacturer and the vehicles chassis number, this plate should be fixed to the vehicle in an easily accessible position. In addition to this the vehicle should also have its 17 digit VIN number stamped or embossed into the vehicle chassis.

Most modern vehicles also have a visible VIN number that can be viewed in the bottom corner of the windscreen.
Many new vehicles will also have the VIN stored on the vehicles computer or CAN ( Control area Network) or OBC/ OBD ( On Board Computer / Diagnostics ) which can be accessed by its in car display or by connecting to the network via the OBD connector.

This VIN number location guide will show you how to find the vehicles VIN number, stamped chassis number build plate and engine code numbers.
