Citroen is a French automobile manufacturer founded by André-Gustave Citroën in 1919.
The company is known for its famous Citroën 2CV, the Traction Avant (which received the International Auto Show's Grand Prix du Design), and for having developed front-wheel drive — so-called "traction avant" and self-leveling hydropneumatic suspension systems fitted to high performance automobiles from 1953 onward and becoming one of the first mass market manufacturers to use large scale application of these systems.
In the beginning, a small group of workers devoted themselves to creating a movable people-carrier. The first motor car produced by Citroen was powered by a converted De Dion Bouton engine.
In 1899 the company designed its first car to be mass produced, with the principal customer being France’s army. During WWI Citroens were used extensively in battle and went on to become the most recognizable cars in Europe at that time.
When peace was declared, a civilian version was unveiled and this led to the creation of Europe’s largest car manufacturer.
Today, Citroen is still making some of the most desirable style-conscious vehicles every created and is defined by stunning designs and efficiency
