BMW, or Bayerische Motoren Werke AG, is a German multinational corporation which produces luxury vehicles and motorcycles.
The company was founded in 1916 as a manufacturer of aircraft engines, which it produced from 1917 until 1918 and again from 1933 to 1945.
After the end of World War II, BMW was banned from producing motorcycles or automobiles. The company instead focused on producing household items and railway brakes. In 1948, BMW started producing motorcycles again and, in 1956, it released its first automobile, the BMW Isetta.
BMW's line of vehicles grew to include sedans, coupes, convertibles, and sport-utility vehicles. The company also has a strong motorsport history, particularly in touring cars, sports cars, and formula 1.
Today, BMW is one of the leading luxury vehicle brands in the world.
