Chassis/VIN Plate
Landrover Defender VIN plate is a riveted metal plate on top of brake servo unit on the offside of the bulkhead. The plate is held by two silver rivets at the top and bottom. On later models it may be found on the door post in sricker format  Defender VIN

On a riveted metal plate on the nearside base of the front windscreen. Landrover logo repeated through plate.  Stamped VIN Number
Stamped Chassis Number
The defender VIN number is stamped with six point asterisk security marks on the front offside chassis member viewed through top front wheel arch. On later models it may be stamped into the side of the suspension housing in the engine compartment

On 4CYL petrol versions the number is on the offside of the block on a horizontal lug next to the distributor. Turbo-Diesel versions have the number on the offside rear behind the fuel pump.
